Fortunately help is at hand. This month (march 2020) the Government set up a dedicated HMRC Coronavirus Helpline. This number is 0800 0159 559. You can use it to explain any difficulties Coronavirus may be causing to you and your business. One of the call handlers will be able to help you come to an arrangement. For example, if you are unable to pay a tax instalment as a result of lack of funds, you can request a deferment or a new timeline for payment. There will be no interest of other penalties.
The 0800 0159 559 HMRC Coronavirus helpline can also be used to find out if your business is one of the 700,000 small businesses around the country that are eligible for a 3,000 cash grant that will be provided by local councils.
