Although better know for collecting taxes, the HMRC are also responsible for the distribution of some benefits, such as Working Tax Credits and Child benefit. Call 0345 300 3900 to speak to them about Working Tax Credit or 0300 200 3100 for information on Child Benefits.
Working Tax Credit
Contact the HMRC to speak to a member of their customer service team if you think you may qualify for this benefit. If you are in work and meet the qualifying conditions then the HMRC will send you a claim form. If you are already in receipt of this benefit then you should ring the same number, below, if you have any change in your personal or employment circumstances:

To qualify for Working Tax Credits applicants between the ages of 16 and 24 must have either:
- a child, or
- a disability
Applicants who are 25 or above must:
- work 16 hours or more each week
- be in paid employment
- earn less than £13,000 pounds per year
If you are unsure if you qualify you can contact the HMRC by telephone to do a Working Tax Credit calculation, you can also get further advice from the Citizens Advice Bureau if you would like to dispute a decision or think you may be entitled to more.
Guardian’s Allowance
If you think you may be eligible for Guardian’s allowance and woukd like to make an application then call the HMRC and request an application pack. You can also telephone them to make them aware of any change of circumstances or to notify them that you would like to terminate a claim.
