What is the scam?

The telephone number 07551381650 is being used as part of a smishing scam, whereby scammers send a text with a link to a malicious website designed to steal your personal and banking info.

If we look closely at the link we see it is for a website named: hsbc.securelogin-paymentalert.com/security

The hsbc. bit at the start is a clever trick to make readers think they are visiting the real HSBC bank website. In fact it is a subdomain of the  website sitesecurelogin-paymentalert.com/security which was created on the 3rd of October 2020 and is hosted by Namecheap.

It is likely that the above website has lots of subdomains each designed to look like the bank that they are targeting.

If you were to click on the link provided in the text from 07551 381650 you would be invited to input your personal and banking details on a page designed to imitate HSBC. Anyone who does this will be at serious risk of fraud.
