The telephone number +44 7984 976269 is being used as part of a scam targeting HSBC customers. UK residents are being sent text messages purporting to be from HSBC, which warn of a payment from their HSBC account.

In the example below the amount is £240.00 and the payment to Mr C Jones.

This may be alarming for some HSBC customers. Those whose suspicions are not aroused the fact that the contact is via a normal looking mobile number and the link is clearly not HSBC, may continue to click through.

What is the link?

The link is to a website called HSpersonal-confirmation.co.uk

This site was only registered two days before the scam text was identified.

The website Hs-personal-confirmation.co.uk was registered on the 2nd of October 2020, with a host in the USA called Namecheap. Anyone who clicks through the link would doubtless find themselves on a site designed to look like the real HSBC website.

The scammers have designed it this way in the hope potential victims will input their personal and banking information. These details can then be used by the scammers for the purposes of fraud.

What should I do if I get a communication from +44 7984 976269?

The most important thing is that you do not click on the link. You can report this phishing attempt to HSBC using the email: phishing@hsbc.co.uk
