About Aer Lingus
Aer Lingus were founded by the Irish Government in 1936. Despite being privatised between 2006 and 2015 and now owned completely by International Airlines Group – a company that also includes British Airways, and Iberia – it remains the quintissential Irish Airline with headquarters in Dublin Airport.
The first Aer Lingus flight took place on the 27th of May 1936 between Dublin and Bristol. Although Aer Lingus now have over 100 destinations across the globe – thanks in part to various Codex agreements (see below) – Aer Lingus retain a strong focus on linking various cities in Britain with the Republic of Ireland.
