If you find yourself experiencing difficulties during your trip to India then you are encouraged to phone the Multilingual Tourist Helpline on 1800 111 363, or short dial 1363.
This number is suitable for tourist who find themselves in travel emergencies, for example if you are stranded at a railways station. It could also be used by visitors to India who are attacked or have their valuables stolen.
Tourism in India is big business and it stands to reason that the Indian Government are keen to ensure that visitors enjoy their trip to the country. To this end they created the toll-free helpline so that tourists could get support and help if they encounter any difficulties that they are unable to resolve by themselves.

The helpline provides support in 12 different languages, these are:

It is a 24 hour helpine that was set up by the Government of India Ministry for tourism to encourage tourists to visit India and protect them when they are there.
As well as providing advice and support they can also connect you with the local policing station so that you can get emergency support if necessary.
International Tourist Helpline
The International Tourist Helpline is the perfect number to call whatever emergency you are experiencing. Staff at the call centre are at hand 24/7 to provide support whatever your situation. As well as providing advice and support in an emergency they can also help you with legal matters. If, for example you have been the victim of an assault in India you can ring this number to get support in reporting the matter to the police and in accessing legal services. Similarly you can use this number if you have been the victim of touts.
