Mumbai Telephone Code


The Mumbai code, for phone calls from within India, is 022. Also called the STD code you will find that any call from a landline in Mumbai will have this code as it’s prefix. Similarly if you want to make a call to a Mumbai landline you must use the 022 Mumbai STD code.

If you want to make a phone call to a Mumbai number then you must use the international code for India which is +91 followed by the Mumbai telephone code minus the ‘0’. Therefore to phone, for example, the Radisson in Mumbai you must dial +91 (the code for India) followed by 22 (the Mumbai telephone code) and then 500 50  123. The full number being +91 22 500 50 123.

Once known as Bombay, Mumbai is India’s largest city and the capital of Maharashtra state. Located on the west coast of India it is home to 23 million people. If you have received a call from India you can check the STD code of the country as it will be the next three digits after the +91 international code. If the caller’s next two digits are 22 then you will know it was from a Mumbai phone.

Therefore if you receive a phone call from a number beginning +91 22, you can know that this phone call was from Mumbai India. If you receive a call from Mumbai within India the India access code +91 will be replaced with a ‘0’ at the start of the Mumbai STD code. Therefore if you are in India and you get a phone call from a number beginning 022, you can know that this call originated in Mumbai.

To phone Mumbai from outside India you must use the +91 international code followed by the Mumbai telephone code 22, and then an 8 digit landline telephone number
