On the 1st of April 2017 there was a merger of the Skills Funding Agency (SFA) and the Education Funding Agency (EFA) to create a new body called the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA). Working under the supervision of the Department for Education the ESFA will be responsible for allocating public funds to schools in the public sector and both public and private further education institutions including colleges.
Responsibilities
This new body will be responsible for allocating the Governments £60 billion education budget, most of which will be spent on compulsory education, ie children up to the age of 16 – inclusive of all public primary and secondary schools across the UK. Approximately a 20th of the overall annual fund – about 3 billion – will be diverted into adult education and colleges.
