Upon the death of a loved one friends or relatives should phone the DWP on 0800 731 0469 to cancel all benefits and contributions such as state pension or National Insurance contributions. This number can also be used subsequently to find out about or organise repayment of any pension overpauments that may have been made.

Who are the Bereavement Team?

The Bereavement team are employed by the DWP to help relatives to cease pensions payments and any other state contributions. If your relative has recently died and they were in receipt of state benefits you should phone the number 0800 731 0469 as soon as possible to report their death. This will help to ensure that there are no overpayments made which could have an impact on the adminstration of their estate.
