One of the nastiest tactics used these days by scammers is known as the Distress call scam. In this situation a person is called or texted by a scammer suggesting that their children are in some kind of trouble. The aim of this dirty tactic is to get the parent to call back in which case the scammer will charge them for the call by connecting them to a premium line. Alternatively they may try to extract personal or banking details from the victim.
