Who are BRAC Bangladesh?

BRAC are an NGO who work to improve the lives of citizens of Bangladeshi citizens through work, agricultural and social programs. They also focus helping children from poor families to gain access to schools, as well as providing University funding for young people who otherwise would not be able to afford further study.

The organisation was set up in the 1972 by Fazle Hasan Abed, just a year after Bangladesh gained independence from Pakistan. Abed set up BRAC Bangladesh in order to get funding for infrastructure projects and to help shape the new country’s society.

From this point BRAC have grown and now have projects operating across the globe. In Asia they have projects in Afghanistan, Myanmar, and the Philippines as well as their native Bangladesh. Meanwhile in Africa they operate in Liberia, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, and Tanzania.

If you have any questions or queries about the work that BRAC do across the globe the you can contact the BRAC UK offices by telephone on 0203 434 3073, or you can email chris@bracuk.net.
